Statement by John Delaney on Marriage Equality Vote

Today the Maryland Senate voted in favor of the Civil Marriage Protection Act of 2012. With the signature of Governor Martin O’Malley, marriage equality will be achieved in Maryland.

John Delaney releases the following statement:

“I am proud to be a Marylander on this historic day. Marriage equality is a landmark moment in the march towards greater justice and fairness in our state.

“The time for division and discrimination on these matters has passed. In Congress I will be a voice for equality.

“The new law will protect religious freedoms and continue Maryland’s heritage as a civil rights leader. Marriage equality is good news for our families.

“I applaud the leadership that Governor Martin O’Malley and Attorney General Doug Gansler have shown on this issue.”
